Sigh…

I am so tired of the “instant“ Internet experts, who can go from experts on climate change, to tariffs, to Iran, and military tactics, and who know better than anyone inside the military, the intelligence community, or the government what should be done and how. It was also funny how the hue and cry over Trump‘s actions last night have brought so many out of the woodwork, when no one said anything about Obama doing the same thing.
And once again, I wonder why we should be listening to anyone in professional sports, actors, are any Internet randos about what was or was not done.
None of us, nor any of them were there, we weren’t involved in the intelligence collection, analysis, or dissemination of the same.
Nor were we privy to any discussions between the US, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE.
For what it’s worth, which is zip, 0, zilch, nothing… I think they did the right thing. Iran has been backed into a corner by Israel, and the next logical step for them was to strike out at their perceived enemies in any way shape, form or fashion they could, including dirty bombs. The ballistic missile threat(s) were mostly stopped, and the Iranian mullahs were upping the threat…
They have held a threat of nuclear bomb/missiles over the heads of Israel, the Middle East, and the US for at least 20 years. And they have been in a declared war with us since 1979, which faithful tend to “conveniently“ forget. So yes, in my home opinion, the strike was long overdue.

And my friend Tom Rogneby had some similar thoughts, HERE.  And he calls out a few more that I happen to agree with…

I woke up this morning to an Internet of former immigration law experts who have evolved into law-of-war, constitutional law, and Mid East foreign policy experts. The mind boggles at what these geniuses will be tomorrow.

I need to step up my game. I’m just a guy who used to have some expertise in Eastern European culture and politics, who morphed into the digital equivelent of a car mechanic, but is currently retooling as a Dachshund caretaker and landscaper.

Spent the weekend watching several schwanz-measuring contests. First, there was the “Who’s the Biggest Geek?” competition, followed by “Who’s Been a Geek Longer?” cagematch. Both of these were eclipsed by “Who Did the Most Cool Stuff When They Were In The Military 20 Years Ago?” scrum.

I did not participate. I was not there to help Heinlein change his typewriter ribbon, nor do I speak multiple non-human languages without a noticable accent. It goes without saying that I was never a Delta Force Scout Sniper Airborne Riverine Space Shuttle Door Gunner.

Watching friends do well and become leaders in something is wonderful. Watching pricks who used to be dominant in their space become a footnote is almost as good.

I’m keeping my mouth shut for 72 hours, as always, to let the dust settle and wait for some truth to filter out, unlike the Dems (who, by the way, WERE notified (Schumer) prior, and Jeffries (after since he was out of touch), along with Johnson and Thune.

  1. I learned a long time ago, that I should keep my nose firmly entrenched in my own little hog wallow. The “expert” opinion of the thousands of internet denizens has about as much meaning and usefulness as a left handed cheese straightener.

  2. Oh so true. And I’ve been watching this kind of thing happen for decades. Having a deranged sense of humour I sort of get a kick out of it… One of the best was almost 50 years ago, and involved the proposed Seabrook nuclear power station — and one of the leading opponents was a mediocre pediatrician who became very influential in the Boston based opposition…

  3. We have ever so quickly gone from experts/gurus, to influencers, to everyone with a keyboard and a bug up his ass.

  4. Agree with all. That said, need to do a little keyboard warmongering.
That was one remarkable military exercise, where everybody in the know kept their damn mouths shut! When was the last time that happened.

  5. Hey Old NFO,

I was very impressed by the OPSEC displayed by virtually no leaks considering the number of moving pieces involved in this endeavor I guess the public firing of some of the leakers has encouraged the “keep lips sealed”. I know a bit about the middle East but I am as a whole staying out of it and to see the usual group of people move from Ukraine, election, ICE,constitutional law and finally Iranian support is boggling. I have made jokes “If Trump cured cancer, they would bitch that he put the cottage industry of cancer research and big pharma out of work”. THis was to me a big wake up to China and Russia, they know that unlike Biden and Obama, Trump will make the hard calls and mean what he says.

  6. I have been spending many years angry and opinionated, and it is becoming clearer to me that I am more of a screw up than I have previously realized.

    • Me, too. I read once that the greatest knowledge one can have is that of oneself.

Think it was in a fortune cookie. 🙂

Sorry (well, sort of), but I just couldn’t help it — a keyboard being nearby and all!

  7. I have no opinion on the internet experts apart from the fact that they should wind their collective necks in.

This operation was outstanding and the achieved precision/accuracy was just incredible.

That said, with a target so deep, how can one do any post-strike analysis?

  8. Kinetic action against Iran will slow them down and inconvenience them. It will NOT deter them. It’s likely that much of the already enriched uranium has been moved and dispersed. The facilities destroyed will be rebuilt in deeper more hardened locations and the quest for canned sunshine will continue. As long as the fanatic mullahs control Iran the efforts to destroy Israel and then the rest of us infidels will persist. Russia and China are for the most part rational and understand the concept of M A D. Muslims are not reasonable and many actually seek martyrdom, even if that means the destruction of society. It’s difficult and often impossible to negotiate with Islam. Because Islam isn’t interested in negotiating. It’s only concerned with conquest.

    • Yes.

      I like the strike.

But, did not necessarily stop the regime, nor the regime’s will to fight.

Recall, if the Japanese had been psychologically prepared, they might have been able to keep the fight up. Could well have been quite ugly, had Hirohito not decided to surrender, or if he had been stopped from getting the order out.

      We shall see.

  9. Stating up front that I have not looked for any expoundings from these “experts” because I am finishing a term paper, it would very likely be amusing to know what they said about President Trump and his recent interview, which is not an unknown verbal perspective for many of us, if not all of us. It was good to hear him use direct language. 🙂

  10. “But there seems to have been an actual decline in rational thinking. The United States had become a place where entertainers and professional athletes were mistaken for people of importance. They were idolized and treated as leaders; their opinions were sought on everything and they took themselves just as seriously — after all, if an athlete is paid a million or more a year, he knows he is important … so his opinions of foreign affairs and domestic policies must be important, too, even though he proves himself to be both ignorant and subliterate every time he opens his mouth. (Most of his fans were just as ignorant and unlettered; the disease was spreading.)”
― Robert A. Heinlein, To Sail Beyond the Sunset

  11. I’m up to my elbows in “how to teach [subject] for [huge international test].” I’m skimming the headlines and ignoring most other things.
